Edited: I got this message from my mom:
No I didn't Susie! It's even better because my mother did when I was little!! She would be almost 90 now and how she would have loved knowing that her handwork is getting that kind of notoriety!!
It's all done on muslin and the edges are still raw.
I always liked the circus when I was a child.
In fact, I think I need to rent Dumbo and watch it with the kids very soon.
The craftiness in my family goes way back!
As you can see, I'm not too concerned with ironing....
It's gorgeous! And as for ironing - just explain to those rude enough to ask ;-) that it would flatten the beautiful handstitching! I *love* having things around me that belonged to family members - especially the embroidered and knitted variety - makes me feel so connected to them. warm regards, lily p.s. what are you going to do with it - you can't stick it back in the bag!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is so beautiful. And what a wonderful history it has. I'm curious to see what you are going to do with it. Your grandma would so be proud that her work is going to be used and loved all these years later. Makes me a little sniffly.
ReplyDeleteI do love this, but I really don't have a use for it right now, so it is going in the vintage drawer where I keep special things like this. Maybe I'll do a thread crochet border for it and it can be a cute table topper. It would be a nice wall hanging for a baby's room, but my own children are too old for this theme.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Grandma can Stitch!
ReplyDeleteThat's just really really cool. Now we know where you get your talent. =)
its beautiful!!! i've got a long drive to Vegas coming up next weekend and I'm planning to emborider a pair of pillowcases in the car . . . thanks for the inspiration :)
ReplyDeleteThat's cool. :)
ReplyDeleteMy goodness that is the best embroidery I have seen. It is gorgeous and so fun. Your mother was very very talented. Seems like it runs in the family :O)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find! This will be a family heirloom now. You can finish it and add your history to it. How wonderful!
ReplyDeleteCircuses actually scared me as a child--or rather, they unsettled me with so much going on in so many places all at once. I adore the little dog embroidery and thank you for posting it. Another Sus
