Library Tote

I made my niece this little tote at the last minute for her birthday. Her mom suggested that she could use a bag for her library books. This fabric and straps are all from JoAnns. The red floral was a couple of fat quarters. I wish my store had that print on the bolt because I really like it!

Cute Library Tote

I backed both the lining and the outside fabric with interfacing so this little bag stands up on it's own and is quite sturdy.

Reverse of Tote

The reverse is cute too. The little pocket is for her library card. A couple of years ago, I made this same little girl a pink Hello Kitty tote. I always intended to make another one of those, but I never got around to it!

    What a great bag! I really like that bird fabric. I haven't been to Joann's in ages, but this might actually get me in the store. Great idea making a pocket for her library card!

    Very cute bag. Your niece will love it. Of course, I have also been in love with the Hello Kitty bag ever since you posted it on Craftster. I would love to make one, but I don't know if my short attention span would allow me to make all those motifs.

    I love it, I've been meaning to make something along these lines for when I go to the library but somehow never got around to do it. Both fabrics are lovely but I just love the white one with the trees and the detail of the pocket on the back for the library card is very cool.

    Very cute. I may just have to make one now. Did you use a light, medium or heavyweight interfacing? Great job!

    I'm glad you all like my bag! I think it was the medium weight interfacing. I used Pellon brand, but I don't have the insert anymore. I interfaced both the lining and the outer fabrid and I stitched a little square gusset into the bottom to give it some shape.

    I've taken a hiatus from making bags--but you've put me back in the mood! I'm going to a large family gathering next week--I bet my aunts and cousins would love some handmade shopping bags---so, I'm off to look through my stash of fabric!
